Dylan Alcott wants people with disabilities to come out of the shadows

Dylan Alcott is a paralympian and wheelchair tennis champion, and thinks it “sucks” people with disability are in the shadows.

Dylan Alcott is on stage as he speaks to an audience sitting in his wheelchair in front of a Tedx sign

In this Tedx talk, Alcott questions why people with disability are depicted as sad and depressed.

If my brother didn’t care I was in a wheelchair, why would I care if I’m in a wheelchair?

Four million Australians have a physical or intellectual disability, which is roughly 1 in 5. Alcott asks, how does that translate into public figures, on television, in parliament and amongst our friends and family. A call to bring them into the mainstream instead of being hidden away.
